Over the coming decades, oceans will continue to absorb the extra heat from the atmosphere, owing to our greenhouse gas pollution. This is already having a dramatic impact on marine ecosystems, from dying reefs to storm battered coastal erosion, to Arctic ice melt and rising sea levels. Divers are some of the first people to observe and document these changes, and they are also some of the first responders on the forefront of repair. This talk will look at how we expect the world's oceans to change, how that will impact people, and some of the ways we can combat the damage.
With his BSAC Diving Conference talk – Mistakes Divers Make - Dan will share his decades of knowledge to help us all become safer divers.
Sophie Rennie, BSAC's new National Diving Officer (NDO) and Sophie Heptonstall, Head of Diving and Training, take to the stage to give an extensive and entertaining update on the world of BSAC training.
For hundreds of years the Baltic Sea has been vital in the maritime trade of Northern Europe and an area of extensive naval conflict in that time, resulting in thousands of lost vessels. Due to the conditions many of these are preserved in a state that they were sunk and offer insight into the stories and histories of their time.
Badewanne are a team of dedicated wreck explorers that, for the last 25 years, have discovered these lost vessels, document them and bring their stories to share with the world. This presentation will give an insight into recent work on significant World War I and II wrecks in the Gulf of Finland.
Andy's longest running series is his monthly column for BSAC’s SCUBA Magazine on nothing more extreme than snorkelling! Which, incidentally, was meant to be a short nine-month run... 12 years later he’s still going.
Mona’s Queen was built in 1934 to serve as a passenger ship bringing tourists to the Isle of Man, but as war broke out her Merchant crew was tasked with moving troops across the Channel. During the evacuation of Dunkirk the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company made a significant contribution, rescuing at least 1 in 14 of each life saved. A magnetic mine sank the Mona’s Queen on her second trip to Dunkirk with loss of 24 lives. In 2023, a dive team from the Isle of Man returned to the wreck.
